Ghaavan, a very good food for breakfast or evening snacks is made in every maharashtrian house in many different ways using variety of ingredients. Traditional Ghavan is made from rice flour, which is very light on stomach and also can be eaten after the episodes of loose motions, stomach upset or indigestion. Ghaavan-Ghatla is made during Ganesh festivals as a bogh during Gauri pujan, where ghatla is slightly sweet. I have experimented on this recipe by adding different combination of flours and vegetables. You can also add or deduct one or two spices according to your choice and taste
Ingedients:
- Chickpea flour (Besan)1 Cup/200g
- Rice flour ½ Cup/100g
- Spinach chopped 1 Cup
- Cumin Powder 1 tsp
- Corriander Powder 1½ tsp
- Carrom seeds (ajwain) ½ tsp
- Sesame seeds (til) ½ tsp
- Ginger, Garlic and Green chilli crushed 1 tsp
- Turmeric powder (haldi) and asafoetida (hing)
- Salt according to taste
- Sesame Oil for cooking
Method
- Mix all the above ingredients except oil in a mixing bowl
- Add water till it is pouring consistency
- Heat a nonstick pan or tava and brush ½ tsp oil on it
- Pour 1 laddle full of the mixture spreading evenly to make thin pancakes of 4-6 inches diameter
- Make it golden brown on both the sides (pour few drops of oil from sides)
- Serve with pudina/imli chutney
